Hearing the petition banning the Rath Yatra, Chief Justice SA Bobde said, “Keeping in mind the safety of the people, we consider it appropriate to stop the Rath Yatra this year and it is directed that the temple areas of Odisha be directed No rath yatra should be organized in India.
Historian Asit Mohanty told that according to historical evidence, the beginning of the rath yatra started from the 13th century. Rath Yatra has never been canceled in the last 284 years. Although many times in history, due to the invasion of different rulers, many times the Rath Yatra had to be stopped, but then on some occasions, this Rath Yatra was held inside the temple premises.
Lord Jagannath’s Rath Yatra begins from Jagannathpuri on Ashada Shukla Dwitiya and ends on Dashami Tithi.
